How to Make Awesome Animated Movies (Ages 10-15)
Class Description
Our highly-rated instructor will teach students the basics of animation. Over the course of 5 weeks they will go from having no former knowledge to having a grasp over the major concepts of the art form and knowing how to create their very own short animated films. This class gives students the skills to turn whatever fantastical things they can imagine into reality.
Live classes will be held once per week, for an hour per session, for five weeks. During this time students will be taught the basics of animation, including the 12 Principles of Animation, lip syncing, layers and parallax, how to use all of the necessary hardware and software for animated filmmaking, and how to put it all together to make their very own films.
Class Requirements
This is a class for beginners.
Class Supplies
Students will need a desktop or laptop computer for this class. Unfortunately, a tablet or smart phone won’t be adequate.
Please download Pencil, the animation program we will be using, before the first day of class.
You can do so here: www.pencil2d.org
HOW TO DOWNLOAD AND OPEN PENCIL:
– First you’ll need to download Pencil2D. Do that by going to ‘www.pencil2d.org’. When you’re there, click on "Download now!". Click on the button that corresponds with your computer. It will download to your computer.
– After you download the folder, you’ll need to extract it by right-clicking and then clicking "Extract All". That will create a copy of the folder that’s useable.
– Go into the new folder and double click on the file that says Pencil2D. Then it should open!
– If you’re on a Mac, you might get this error message: "Pencil2D can’t be opened because it is from an unidentified developer". It only appears because Pencil2D isn’t made by a super famous and popular company. Don’t worry — Pencil2D is absolutely safe, and I’ve been using it for years. To get around it, simply go to System Preferences, then go to Security & Privacy, then click on Open Anyway.
