Assistant Professor

Hello! This is my story.

I picked up a camera for the first time in 1985 when my oldest son was born. At that time I never knew that photography would be a life long endeavor for me. After I learned how to use it from reading books, I became the family photographer. Then I met a wedding photographer who was willing to take me under his wing and show me the ropes. I did my first wedding in 1989. In 2000 I went full time pro and in in 2001 I bought my first digital camera. I never used film again and from there I started teaching digital photography to the older photographers who were slow to take up digital. I fell in love with teaching and started teaching basic Photoshop and Digital Wedding Album Design for the Professional Photographers of America. What I love about teaching is to see the light come on in the eyes of the student as they come to understand the subject.

I feel I have a special gift for teaching because I have the ability to break the subject down and explain it in a way that is easily understood. Personally, I find that I am slow to catch on to a new subject, but once I learn it, I am able to make others understand it more easily than it was taught to me. I take my time helping each student and repeat the instruction until it becomes part of your long-term memory. In my classes I have a saying, “Teaching means no one gets left behind.”
