Dungeons and Dragons 101
Welcome to Dungeons and Dragons 101. Let’s roll initiative! This class is a great way for children to learn how to play Dungeons and Dragons.
This exciting, adventurous table-top role playing game opens a world of opportunity with a map, a character and some dice. Children will learn how to play the game, create a character or further develop an existing one, learn dice mathematics and even get to spend a little time participating in game play.
Class requirements are minimum. Please have a device with a camera, access to a web browser to build a character and a map/dice user interface. Beginning a character before class is optional.
Device(s) with camera and web browser.
What is Dungeons and Dragons?
Dungeons and Dragons is a table-top role playing game where players come together to tell an epic tale of heroics, villainy, battles, treasure hunting and so much more!
What is a Dungeon Master?
A dungeon master is the individual who runs the game. They explain the scene, answer your questions, role play as characters and help you develop the story.
Is Dungeons and Dragons Hard to Play?
Not at all! The game is exactly what you make it. The dungeon master has some key points of a story in mind, but beyond that its up to the interactions and the luck of the dice roll to determine the rest.
What Do I Need to Attend This Class?
Willingness to step out of your comfort zone and pretend as if you were your character. While not required, an idea of what type of fantasy character you would like to play is helpful. Basic math skills or access to a calculator. Lastly, the ability to use a web browser for character creation and map/dice accessibility.
What Age Group is This Best For?
It’s recommended that children are 12 and up to play, however this class can accommodate 10 and up. Because we don’t play out an entire campaign (these can take days, weeks or months to complete) it will be simple for this age group to participate and enjoy.
