James Beihl

Art Instructor

I have had a love of picture-making and visual art for almost as long as I can remember. Along my art journey have been fortunate to have been mentored by some of the kindest, and most generous people in the field and I want give back to the art community by sharing what I do with people who are also interested in learning more about the visual arts. My philosophy is that you must love what you do, because if you love the art you produce and have fun creating it, then other people will see that as well. My mission is to instill a sense of wonder and fun in people as well as an appreciation for the visual arts.

Experience

James Beihl is a local artist and arts educator with over 15 years of experience in the field. James graduated from Pratt Institute in 2011 with a BFA in Communications Design. From there James broke into the entertainment art field doing various comic books and concept design work for independent studios and publications. In 2015 James worked with Glasshouse Graphics Talent Agency and collaborated on a fantasy series with author Karen Traviss of Star Wars and Halo fame. In 2017 James began teaching at the Atelier At Flowerfield in Smithtown NY and has been involved in Art Education ever since. James also started doing Holiday Art with the art studio The Rise.Org around this time as well and when he is not painting sci-fi book covers he is sculpting artwork on giant pumpkins. As of recently James continues to work on sci-fi/fantasy book covers and teaches several classes in picture-making both online and remotely.
